News and Announcements
Ruby Hill Aquatics is very proud to announce that Emily Chen has signed with UC Santa Cruz to swim with this fall. Emily has been a great leader in her time with us at RHAC and we know she will be a star for UC Santa Cruz. Please see the following statement from Emily Chen on her decision:
“After spending a long and hard time deciding, I’m BEYOND excited to share that I will be attending UC Santa Cruz this fall. I’m stoked to continue swimming with the UCSC Swim & Dive Team while pursuing a double major in Astrophysics and Computer Science! I ended up loving Santa Cruz as a fit for me academically and athletically, so I absolutely CANNOT WAIT.
Thank you to those who supported me and believed in me during my first and last year on the team! I’ve had so much fun and I’m so happy for what lies ahead. Go Banana Slugs! :)”
Ruby Hill Aquatics, has three great athletes representing us at the college level this year. We have Jonah Cooper at The Ohio State Unviersity, Miranda Heckman at University of Texas, and Sofia Moufarrej at California State University, East Bay.
During the month of December all three had their Winter College Invite Meets. These meets are college swimmers’ mid season taper meet. Jonah, Miranada, and Sofia crushed it making all of us proud putting up numerous season and personal bests.
Miranda Heckman will also be representing Ruby Hill Aquatics at the Olympic Trials in Omaha, Nebraska from June 21-18, 2020.
We will update you next on our college athletes after their Conference Championships Meets during February.
On December 21st and Vic’s All Star Kitchen, we had our 2nd Annual Holiday Breakfast Celebration. Attendance was so large that this year we filled the team room to the brim at the restaurant. The highlight of the morning was the Holiday Gift Exchange. The younger swimmers participated in rousing game Right-Left Gift Exchange with a fun interpretive reading of the “Night Before Christmas” by Coach Rachel. The Junior and older swimmers participated in a highly spirited and competitive game of White Elephant. Mainly exciting “steals” took place as everyone had fun and ended up with a gift.
Every swimmer in attendance left with a special commemorative Ruby Hill Aquatics Holiday Ornament.
Ruby Hill Aquatics was represented at Junior Olympics in San Jose by Kristin Der, Michael Khutornenko, Aubrey Tran, Madison Wainwright, and Dominick Wonosaputra for individual races. Those swimmers were joined by Rylan Betker, Pratyusha Kaitiyar, Casey Nguyen, Eliana Tang, Alayna West and Nicole Xu to form the first Junior Olympic relays in program history. We were represented in the 11-12 Boys/Girls Medley and Free Relay.
We had 3 swimmers represent in finals including two first timers in Michael Khutornenko and Aubrey Tran. Dominick Wonosaputra also represented us in finals placing top 3 in all of his individuals.
It was a very exciting and fast meet that showed our program can compete with the best in Pacific Swimming and that we have an exciting young base of swimmers to build on as move forward into the future.
Congratulations to Emma Washam for signing her National Letter of Intent (NLI) to attend Westmont College in Santa Barbara. She will begin swimming for the Warriors in the fall. We look forward to supporting her as she enters the next chapter in her life.
Way to go Emma!
